Disposition:

Loyal: It goes without saying that a Shield to the King is beyond loyal to his charge. Despite him holding Noctis to an extremely high standard, he strongly believes in him and stands by his side, always, regardless of how much they sometimes bicker. There was an instance where Gladiolus reminded frustrated Ignis of their job and to have some faith in Noctis, a debt Ignis repays later by reminding Gladio of the same thing after the big fight in the mines of Cartanica. Still, he is proud of whom he is and what he had trained his entire life to be, and there is nothing else he’d rather be. He is ready to lay down his life for his King

Protective: This trait of his ties into loyalty. It does not matter to him what kind of trouble Noctis is in, he is there to protect him and offer him aid. The entire party, in fact. The scar on his face he earned from protecting his prince from drunken idiots. He didn't fight back because of his status, but he also didn't let anyone lay a finger on Noctis. When they face Ravus, he stands in front of the team during the confrontation, taking a blow for them, that sends him flying back against the wall. The second scar he earns after fighting Gilgamesh, whom he faces as the means to further improve himself so he can be of better use to Noct and have enough strength to shield him from any harm that comes his way.

Serious: When it comes down to work, Gladiolus does not joke around. He is the one that keeps the entire party focused on the task at hand, whether it is fighting the current enemy or figuring out what they are going to do next. Sometimes that tends to spark serious arguments with Noctis, especially on the train to Cartanica. They clash, very loudly, for the first time in years, and it is Ignis who manages to defuse the situation between them. He tends to become hotheaded in situations like these which is sometimes good, as it pushes them onwards towards their goal, but also bad, because he can be insensitive of other people’s opinions and feelings.

Outgoing: Gladio is through and through a people’s person. He is very easy to chat with and he easily makes new connections. Despite his height and bulk, he always has a charming smile on his face and is always down to hang out. Sometimes it is frightening how easily he can get along with people. He can also be a big flirt at times, and Prompto always complains loudly about it. His charismatic side can easily draw in new information from people that they can use.
All that being said, that doesn’t mean he completely trusts every person he comes across. As a royal bodyguard, he always has a decent amount of suspicion for anyone new that tries to approach the group out of the blue.

>These are the most dominant traits of his, but there are many others. He usually leaves strategy to Ignis, but he can make tactical moves as needed (when they are trying to hunt down a beast, for example).
>Despite his rough, “I work 24/7” looks, Gladio quite intelligent and enjoys reading a good book in downtime. There’s some brain behind that brawl.
>He enjoys the outdoors a lot and he is more than happy to spend days on end just camping under the open sky, regardless of whether it is raining or not, much to Noct’s displeasure.
>He’s seen being a caring older brother around his younger sister Iris. Constantly worried about her, he hounds the party throughout the first part of the game, asking to go to Lestallum instantly instead of going to chocobo farm. Iris can hold her ground but he’s still worried and protective of her.
>Gladio is also capable of keeping eye on Noct from not eating too much junk food, berates Ignis when the advisor listens to Noct’s complaints, and yet never stands holds either of them back if that brings cup noodles to his plate for dinner. He likes indulging them all in the end, Prompto too, by posing for his photos. Blond always complains about how photogenic they all are.
>He has very blunt sense of humor.

Under pressure: Gladiolus is already used to working under the pressure. In his early years, that pressure was being able to stand at the same level as his father, to be a strong shield that will protect his King. Insomnia falling adds another boulder on his shoulders as he is forced to keep an eye out for any and all dangers that roam, whether it is beasts during the day or demons during the night. And then all of that multiplies tenfold when the night just never lifts from Eos. He adapts quickly, he is smart and educated, and can think quickly on his feet and in new (and potentially dangerous) situations. His skills to get along with almost anyone can reel in a lot of friendships and contacts, and his fighting abilities can pull him through all sorts of danger. He sees Noctium as another obstacle he needs to cross so he can get back on track, back on Eos, where he'll patiently wait for his King's return.
He's down to do anything he needs to do to achieve this- from having one to multiple partners or making alliances- whichever is more effective. That being said, he will never pick an option that will hurt people, whether it is in the short or long run.

Condition upon arrival: Bruised and battered from fighting the demons non stop on Eos, but otherwise healthy. Nothing that won't heal up in a few days.

Abilities:

• Gladiolus doesn't have special magical abilities. He can, thanks to Noctis sharing his power, summon greatswords and shields from the ethereal pockets to fight. He is very proficient with them, able to wield the swords with both or with a single hand, if needed, he is strong enough. He is always ready for combat, regardless of the situation.
  
  
• Due to his upbringing as a Shield to the King, Gladiolus is an expert survivalist and tracker. He can identify poisonous plants and mushrooms, or track down prey or dangerous beasts, keeping his party (his King) safe.


Inventory:
As he's taken from the 2 years into the Eternal Night, he has

• Two swords- Claymore and Genji blade, one shield- Hero's Shield, stored in armiger at all times
• standard survival packet (some 1-person rations that don't spoil, some bandages, emergency cash (not useable in Noctium))
• one standard healing potion
